Scottish Immigration in The Late 1800's

Scots were generally looked down upon by the Germans, Dutch, and English. This is because they were thought to be less civilized or even a barbaric group. In the late 1700's around 1780-90 15,000 Scots came over to American from Scotland. In America Scots were referred to as Scotch-Irish. They would take the jobs of Farmers, Soldiers, Blacksmiths, Cattle Ranchers, Lumbermen, and Factory Workers. When they came to America they settled mainly along the East Coast. Mostly in the states of Pennsylvania and down to Georgia. Especially during the Revolutionary War there was a high concentration of Scots who settles in Virginia.
Some motives for coming are both push and pull reason's. Some pull reason's are that they came as indentured servants, employed by England. They also came for financial reasons. They heard of the great success to make a living in America and were pulled to it. Some push reason's for coming to America were to escape the strong class system held together in the United Kingdom. Also some escaped Scotland to evade death or imprisonment. Political disputes were also very common in Scotland at this time.
